Remote Work in Remote Times: 10 free platforms to find remote opportunities for young adults

For us young people looking for a leg-up in competitive job markets, a respectable internship or entry-level job can be incredibly helpful. This gateway employment is a lot easier said than done though. While looking for a significant opportunity into the job force is already difficult for teens and young adults everywhere, the need to work remotely that comes with Covid-19 has made our job search even harder. That being said, do not fret; hard is not impossible! I've compiled a list of 10 free platforms teens and young adults can use to find remote jobs in a variety of different fields. In no particular order, here goes:

Glassdoor is one of the world’s largest recruiting sites. Built with the goal of increasing workplace transparency, Glassdoor offers thousands of the latest job listings, a growing database of company reviews, CEO approval ratings, salary reports, and more. While it’s not specialized for teens and young adults, you can find lots of internships and entry-level jobs by using the site's extensive filters.

OpportuniTeens is a student-led initiative that provides opportunities for teens, many of them remote. It consistently shares both paid and unpaid jobs, which range from editorial work to scientific research and everything in between. Their instagram page, @Opportuni_teens, displays a constant stream of these opportunities.

Outsourcely is a platform that connects freelancers with companies that are looking for both part-time and full-time workers. Like Glassdoor, it isn’t specifically catered to teens and young adults, but you can describe what you're looking for and your level of experience when you create your profile. Once you've created a profile, you can browse through an extensive list of the site's job postings.

Dynamite Jobs is an expertly curated, high-ranked remote jobs site with 100+ new online jobs each week, detailed job search filters, and a wide variety of job proposals from less-known companies. Their job search filters are especially useful for young adults looking for entry-level opportunities.

SuccessBaseMass is another student-led initiative that provides information about free resources, programs, and competitions for teens and young adults. They have fairly consistent updates and an accessible online presence.

We Work Remotely is the largest website worldwide for remote jobs, with options in every category and industry. New jobs are posted at a fast pace, so you can almost always find new opportunities. The website’s meticulous categorization also helps job-seekers find the exact opportunities they’re looking for.

Remotive is a free online job board that lists jobs in many fields, including product development, software development, and design. It also has a bi-monthly newsletter for nomad job seekers that highlights great remote opportunities. All of their postings are easily traceable with a date attached and the choice to redirect to a company's internal job post.

Skip the Drive is a website that offers remote jobs in a wide variety of categories such as accounting, consulting, editing, and business development. It is especially helpful for bilingual job seekers, with a dedicated category that caters to them.

Lemons & Life Org is a weekly newsletter that promotes free opportunities, jobs, scholarships, and internships for teens and young adults. This newsletter mostly showcases startups, so you won’t find its proposals in many other places!

@Findingopportunities is a student-led Instagram page that advertises scholarships, volunteer positions, internships, and organizations for teens and young adults.

This list is definitely not comprehensive, but it’s full of job-providing gems that I (and countless other users worldwide) would vouch for. Whether you’re in it for the income, the experience, the padded resume, or all of the above, this list is a great starting point. Once you start browsing through these resources, let us know in the comments which platform you found to be the most useful!
